Band instruction
is available for a monthly fee for interested students
in grades 4-8. The
fee is announced at the beginning of each school year. Instruments
are rented with an option to buy. Small-group lessons
are provided one period a week and practice is held once
a week. Periods are rotated so that the same classes
are not missed. Each student is responsible for making
up missed work. A meeting is held each year for interested
in parents. Normally, eighth-grade students practice and
march with the Greensburg Central Catholic band. If
an eighth-grader is new to band, he or she may join the Aquinas
Academy Band. |

Aquinas Academy
students in grades K-8 have an opportunity to experience
the many facets of Art. Drawing, painting, clay work, crafts, maskmaking
and design are a few of the units offered. All grade
levels are exposed to a study in Art history. Grade
8 students are required to research and write reports on
famous artists. Many cross-curricular projects are
carefully planned. Field trips each year to the Westmoreland
Museum of Art are eagerly anticipated. An end of the
year “All School Art Show” is an exciting way
for students to show what they have accomplished for the
year. |

Aquinas students
in grades K-8 have an opportunity to experience performing
through the school’s
drama program. Each year, students in grades K-2 participate
in a “Grandbuddies Gathering.” This is
a morning when grandparents and other family members and
friends are invited to the school for breakfast, a prayer
service and a short performance in the school’s gymnasium.
K-1 students also perform each year in the school’s
Christmas program, which is presented in mid-December. Each
February, second and third-grade students present a patriotic
show and every April, Aquinas middle school students present
a musical. The middle school performance is shown in
the Science Hall Theatre at Westmoreland County Community
College, Youngwood. Fourth and fifth-grade students
close the performance season each May with a musical in the
school gymnasium. In addition to the drama program, Aquinas
offers a vocal music program, which is offered to students
in grades 5-8. This choral group provides concerts
throughout the year. |

for students to participate at a competitive level under
the Diocesan Catholic Youth Organization guidelines and WPIAL

involved in athletics are expected to maintain acceptable
academic achievement. Any student absent from school
on a particular day may not attend practice or participate
