Art Department

Welcome to the Aquinas Academy art department. What would the world be like without art? I hope we never have to find out. Art education is important!  The arts teach students that there are many ways to see and interpret the world around them. Here at Aquinas Academy, we focus on each student feeling successful and showing a sense of pride in their work.

All grade levels are taught the basic art concepts. The art curriculum incorporates many areas, including drawing, design, painting, clay and plaster work, as well as art history.

Students are exposed to art history in various ways. All grade levels study a unit in art history related to the styles, periods of art, and details of famous artists. They use this knowledge to create an art piece based on the style of the artist.

Our students are within walking distance of the Westmoreland Museum of American Art and can utilize the programs that the museum offers.

The Spring Art Show allows students to display their work and take pride in their accomplishments for the year. Students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades have a chance to participate on ‘stage crew’ where they will design and construct props and scenery for various events throughout the school year.
