Aquinas Academy Choral Department
Pre-Kindergarten
3 and 4 year olds have the opportunity to sing, move and play instruments with the instructor once a week. Songs and movements are age appropriate and are developmentally supportive of the lessons that the students are learning.
Grades K-7
All Aquinas Academy students attend one- 45 minute general music class in the six day cycle. Students are taught the basic skills of musical elements and creative expression using the National Standards of the Arts and Humanities. Elements include rhythm, pitch, melody, harmony dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture and movement. Interdiciplinary themes are used to correlate subjects.
Grades 5 and 6
Students are offered the opportunity to sing in the Aquinas Singers. This group meets for one- 45 minute rehearsal and will perform two concerts.
Grade 7
Students are offered the opportunity to sing in the Aquinas Chorale. This group meets for one- 45 minute rehearsal and will perform two concerts.
Grades 6 and 7
Students are offered the opportunity to Cantor at the school Masses
and Prayer Services. The cantors practice during recess for upcoming events.
Grades 5-7
Students are offered the opportunity to play in the Hand Bell Choirs. Bell Choirs meet at recess on Tuesdays and will perform two concerts.

Grades 6-7
Students have the opportunity to audition for the Spring Musical. Details will be given to the students in the brown envelopes.
Grades K, 1 and 2
Students perform a short program for visiting relatives and friends that Aquinas Academy calls “Grand Buddies’ Day.”
Grade 2 “Grand buddies’ Day” is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 14, 2011 at 9AM.

Summer Music Camp
Aquinas Academy’s Camp Music Zone takes place in June. Students in grades 4-8 are eligible to attend this week long day camp. Application for registration and schedule of events will be mailed in the brown envelopes in the month of February. Fee is $75.00 for the week. Mrs. Caryn Dettling, Mrs. Cheryl Hull, and Mrs. Coreen Poklembo are the faculty. Classes include Elective Zone, Bell Zone, Singer Zone, Theory Zone and Human Video Zone. A Grand Finale Concert Zone will be held at the end of the week for parents, friends and relatives.
