Junior Achievement

 

What is Junior Achievement (JA)?

 

It is the world’s largest and fastest growing organization dedicated to educating young people about business, economics and free enterprise. JA’s programs are taught by classroom volunteers from the business community in the United States and 112 countries worldwide.

 

What is the purpose of JA?

 

Junior Achievement will educate and inspire young people to succeed in a global economy. The 2010 Junior Achievement Program at Aquinas Academy will begin during Catholic Schools Week. Representatives from each grade level begin instruction during January and continue with six additional sessions.  A list of each course title for the 2010 will be available shortly.

 

Below is the course title for each grade level for 2009.

 

Kindergarten – Ourselves – Explains personal economics through a collection of short stories and corresponding activities.

 

First Grade – Our Families – Emphasizes the roles people play in the local economy as well as how they work together to make the place they live a good place.

 

Second Grade – Our Community – Explores the interdependent roles of workers in a community and how communities work.

 

Third Grade – Our City – Studies careers the skills people need to work in those careers, and how businesses contribute to a city.

 

Fourth Grade – Our Region – Introduces the relationship between resources found in different regions and businesses that produce goods and services for consumers.

 

Fifth Grade – Our Nation – Examines how businesses operate in the United States and explore various economic issues that impact those businesses.

 

Sixth Grade – Global Marketplace – Provides practical information about the global economy and its effect on students’ lives.

 

Seventh Grade – The Economics for Success – Provides practical information about personal finance and the importance of identifying education and career goals based on a student’s skills, interest, and values.

 

Eighth Grade – JA America Works – Provides students with examples of how business and entrepreneurship affected the economic development of the United States during the 19th century.
